By Rob Parker at 12:11 pm on June 24, 2008 | No comments

Oshawa’s city council has just given the green light for a developer to construct an apartment building for students in the city. This is great news for those students looking at attending university there. The students have had a difficult time finding an a place to stay ever since a new bylaw was put in to place limiting the number of rental bedrooms there could be in a home. When construction is complete over five hundred students will have a place to call home. For a student hoping to attend university in Oshawa the addition of these homes will provide them with more options. For some area residents though they feel the building will cause problems. Like any new building proposed those that will live close to it fear they will lose some of their sunlight and their privacy. With a new building adding that many new residents in one area parking spaces could also become and issue.
Originally the proposal included even more apartments to house more students but the developer cut down the number in hopes to appease the local residents.

Development Study On St. George

By Rob Parker at 10:54 am on | No comments

The town of St. George Ontario will be one of four areas included in a study on growth in the area. Outside parties are interested in developing in the area and research will be conducted with this study to determine long term growth strategies. The researches will look at the cost of new development, availability of municipal services, and potential uses for the land that is available. For St. George the entire village will be included in the study. One developer is very interested in building homes within the village and wants the study completed to see what measures need to be taken. Obviously when adding such a significant amount of new homes to a low populated town means there will be issues with the town’s water and sewage facilities. The public is invited to view the proposed developments once the studies are completed.

By Rob Parker at 9:01 am on June 20, 2008 | No comments

Until recently the condominium was the hot home on the market for buyers. However, it seems the condo market has slowed down a bit and semi detached and detached homes are making a small comeback. While the average price of a detached home in Mississauga is beyond a first time buyers reach the price may be big but so is the size of the home and usually the lot it sits on. Comparing a Mississauga home to one in Toronto of the same price, the Mississauga home will be considerable bigger and so will the yard. With an average price of approximately $600 000 the market for detached homes in this area targets move up buyers. The city offers a strong community feel, good commuting distance and access to highways and a good economic background.
